After taking the two assessments I came to the conclusion that I am very technologically incompetent. There were so many items that the assessments questioned that I had absolutely no idea what they meant. I believe that if this course is to be about learning technology I am in for a large learning curve. I am actually pleased that this may be the case because I feel that I really need to have this knowledge in order to significantly help my students to excell in the quest for educational success. I feel that it is imperative that I become technologically adept so that I am at least as competent as my students. There are time that they have asked me questions concerning how to do something on the computer and I am not able to help them. I would hope that this course will push me and pull me screaming and kicking into the technlogical age. I think that as a leader on my campus I will need to develop the ability to work on computers with a fair degree of competence. If as a leader I have no idea what is being done on my campus with technology i could easily be scammed or duped into costing the campus and district both time and human resources. These assessments were painfully accurate aas to my ignorance of technology. I have now come to the conclusion that it is time to learn something new about how to use a computer every day.

The per-K starts out learning to operate the software using oral and visual cluse and progresses to where he/ she is more competent with the technology. The student learns to double click in order to use software programs and moves on to using touch screen devices. The student then will learn how to use CD to listen to songs. The student will learn to communicate using writing and drawings.eventually the student learns to access information. This will help the student as he progresses through his educational carreer. The better prepared the student is for his future the more successful he/she is likely to be.
ReplyDeleteTeaching and learning is an area that encompasses the usage of technology in the classroom. Teaching and learning is the level of that usage by the students and how the teaching is actually done by the educator. The lowest level is called early tech. Early tech is the type of teaching that has gone on primarly for decades. The class is teacher centerd with the students using technology very sparingly. There is no technology integration in the foundation subject area TEKS. Most schools have surpassed this level with only 3.9% of reporting campuses reporting to be still at this basic level.
ReplyDeleteThe second level is called developing tech. At this level the classroom is now teacher directed. The student in this classification use technology regularly on an individual basis to receive electronic information and to develop communication and presentation projects. At the developing level there is minimal usage of technology in the foundation TEKS. this is where most of the reporting campuses in the state reside. There is a 69.7% rating for this level statewide. This is by far where most of the states campuses are at this time.
The third level is called advanced tech. At the aadvanced level the instruction has progressed to teacher facillitated. The students are now collaborating with their peers and with experts outside the classroom in order to evaluate information, analyze data and content in order to solve the problems they are assigned to. At the advanced tec level technology is integrated into the foundation area TEKS. The advanced level contains just over one quarter of the campuses with a reporting level of 25.5% of all campuses from around the state.
The highest level that the star chart has is called the target tech. At the target tech level the instruction is also teacher facillitated, but the teacher has become a mentor and also a learner as well. At the target tech level all students have full access to all appropriate and necessary technology to assist them in completing activities that have been incorporated into all the core content areas of the campus. At this level all technology application YEKS have been met.
The target tech has the fewest number of campuses that have reached this level with only 0.9% of reporting campuses at this level.
The campus I teach at has been on the advanced level two of the three years we analyzed. There was a drop in the second year back to developing but thena significant jump back to advanced.
In order for the campus I teach at to continue to advance and eventually reach target tec level there must be some dedicated time and effort in the way of teacher training to make the move. The main thing that will be required is time. teachers must be given the opportunity to learn about technology and the ways to incorporate it into the subject they are instructing.
